Hundred Mile Store was created to make available in our neighbourhood of Champlain Heights products that are local, sustainable and ethically sourced. We have been working hard to find and support independent small-batch companies.
Everything in the store is made by a company or artisan within a hundred miles of Champlain Heights. So, instead of driving to Langley to buy Glenwood Valley jams, jellies and preserves, Glenwood Valley jams, jellies and preserves can be found in Champlain Heights. Our products come from Chilliwack, North Vancouver, Denman Island, Saltspring Island, Langley, Surrey, Richmond and Vancouver.
Hundred Mile Store also showcases local artisans who put their creative energy into making beautiful pieces for sale. Linda and Cassie have made jewelry, Wendy makes veggie bags, makeup bags and shoulder bags from upcycled materials, Georgina makes neck warmers and lavender sachets, Linda knits scarves and toques. Photocards featured at Hundred Mile Store are made by Heather.
Lastly, Hundred Mile Store strives to support social enterprises. The coffee we carry is roasted downtown at East Van Roasters, which is part of the Portland Hotel Society and helps women getting back on their feet. Pottery at Hundred Mile Store is made by Just Potters in East Vancouver by people who have had significant barriers to employment. Luv the Grub jams and chutneys are also made by people who struggle in their daily lives – using food that would otherwise end up in a landfill.
So, when you shop at Hundred Mile Store, you know you are supporting local, sustainable and ethical business practises.
